Talli’s Gift functions to reach out and meet the needs families within our church and community by supplying: special gifts, clothing, personal items, food & household supplies.
Talli Buchanan was a vibrant and young 25 year-old follower of Jesus who called New Community her church home. Her red hair, beautiful smile and joyful spirit brightened every room she entered. In 2003, Talli began her fight against cancer. In December 2004, after many surgeries and months of chemo treatments, Talli was advised that any treatment moving forward would only pro-long her life, not save it.
In December 2004, Talli joined us for our Women’s Christmas Celebration. As we revealed the family we were adopting and listed their specific needs, Talli was ready to serve and help in any way she could.
In the midst of her own pain and the reality of what the next months would bring, Talli stepped outside of her situation and chose to meet others’ needs. It’s easy to serve and meet needs when life is going well. However, Talli, chose to love and bless others while her own needs where great and deep! A week later, the trunk of Talli’s car was filled with plastic tubs with medical supplies, shoes, socks and coloring books for the family – Talli’s gifts were NOT just donations, they were gifts of LOVE, given by a women who found peace in His LOVE.
On April 11, 2005, Talli went to be with the Lord. We give thanks to God for Talli and for her impact within our church family and community. The following Christmas (2005), we dedicated the “adopt-a-family ministry” in her name and it will forever be known as “Talli’s Gift.”
