Whether you’re new to New Community, new to following Jesus, or you’re just not sure where to go next in your journey of faith, Next Steps is designed to help you figure out what step to take next. We hold an in-person gathering called Next Steps periodically on Sundays after our 11:00 worship gathering. You can also scroll down to walk through our online tool and we’ll get you connected with someone to talk about what’s next. We’re excited to walk this journey with you. Let’s get started.

 Salvation by grace through faith

Step 1 is Jesus. WE BELIEVE THAT HUMANITY, CREATED BY GOD, WILLFULLY SINNED, AND IS LOST AND WITHOUT HOPE APART FROM JESUS CHRIST and WE BELIEVE THAT FORGIVENESS OF SIN IS BY GRACE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST. These statements are part of our STATEMENT OF FAITH. They outline what we believe it means to be saved. Those who have committed their lives to the pursuit of right relationship with God, the creator of all things, are part of a community called the Church. This isn’t a way to say you’ve punched your ticket to heaven and that’s it. It’s a commitment to living a new life of transformation as part of the community of believers as we anticipate the redemption of all creation. We believe the process goes like this:

First, you have to hear God’s Word about the good news of Jesus (Romans 10:17).

Second, you have to believe it (John 20:31)

Third, you have to repent of the sin in your life (Acts 17:30). This doesn’t mean you become perfect. It means you are actively turning away from the old, dead things of a former life in pursuit of Jesus.

Fourth, you confess that Jesus is the Christ and the only Savior able to save us from our sin (Romans 10:9-10).

If the above doesn’t sound familiar to you, this is your NEXT STEP. Click the button below and we’ll get you in contact with someone who will walk through these steps with you.

In baptism, the believer in Jesus makes a confession of faith and is immersed in water, symbolizing the death of the old life and resurrection into new life through Jesus. It is a memorial of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. It’s also a public commitment to joining the community of believers. At New Community, we baptize believers who are capable of making a conscious decision to follow Jesus by immersing their entire body into water. We do this because we believe it is the most accurate method to the biblical text and because it is a significant visual representation of death and resurrection. We believe anybody who has placed their faith in Jesus as their Savior should publicly declare their repentance from sin and commitment to live righteously by the grace of Jesus and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to be baptized sooner rather than later.

You can read more about baptism in the following passages: 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Romans 6:4-11, Colossians 2:12, Acts 2:41, and Acts 8:26-40.

If you’re a believer in Jesus and have never made a public declaration through baptism, this is your NEXT STEP. Click the button below to tell us about your journey and we’ll put you in contact with someone to walk through these steps with you.

 Church Membership

At New Community, anybody who is saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, has publicly confessed and declared this through baptism by immersion, and has committed to living a righteous life by the power of the Holy Spirit is welcome to be a member. We see membership as a family. The family gets together, holds one another accountable, and lives out a calling to bear the image of God as we strive to LOVE LIKE JESUS AND LIVE LIKE JESUS. Members of New Community commit to Connect, Grow, and Serve as disciples who make disciples. We do this by worshipping and celebrating community together regularly, serving alongside one another, and by giving and stewarding our resources sacrificially and generously so that we can do more together than we can as individuals. Your NEXT STEP might be joining New Community as a member of the family. Click the button below and we’ll put you in contact with someone.

Understand your Gifts

We believe that those who have been saved by grace through faith and have committed to the community of believers through baptism are uniquely gifted and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live Christ-like lives (Galatians 5:16-25) and help build up and edify the Church. These gifts are often things we’re passionate about and are meant to be used by ALL followers of Jesus as part of one body (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). These gifts are also filtered through and manifested in our personalities and differing leadership abilities. If you’re not sure about some of the areas you might be uniquely gifted in, take our Spiritual Gifts Assessment below and we’ll get you in contact with someone who can help you find a place to use these gifts in your context.

It is important to understand that this assessment is in no way a definitive way to measure who you are. It is mostly self awareness, so be as honest as you can with your answers and share your results with some people who know you well to confirm. This is simply a tool to help you understand yourself better within the larger story of the Church.

Connect, Grow, and Serve

The community of believers are DISCIPLES. Disciple is a word that simply means a learner or a follower. Disciples were (and still are) those who follow the teachings of another with the intent to pass along wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. The great commission calls the church to “make disciples” in baptism and training. (Matthew 28:18-20).

So, you’re a believer in Jesus. You know you are uniquely gifted to be an integral part of the Church. Maybe you’ve been coming to the worship gatherings on Sunday for a while. What now?

We believe that real discipleship happens when followers of Jesus connect outside of a 1 hour worship gathering on Sundays to live in real relationships with one another. In our busy lives and culture, we know these relationships can be difficult unless they are made a priority. We also know it is essential to live out our full potential as a community of believers. This section of NEXT STEPS is meant to be cyclical in nature and designed to be open doors to real discipleship. These three categories are necessary for all followers of Jesus in their journey of faith. Check out a few of the questions below and let us help you find your NEXT STEP.

  • Do you need a supportive community where you can grow closer to God, meet new friends, share life experience, gather around the table, and be known and be loved? Your NEXT STEP might be joining an NC Group, event, or mentoring season. Our NC Groups meet long term, short term, and seasonally. We have groups based on different studies, books of the Bible, demographics, topics, and activities. Small Groups are great on-ramps to connect with God and connect with others. Believers need a community to connect, grow and be held accountable too. Let us help you CONNECT.

  • Maybe you’re new to following Jesus or you need to add a little more to your knowledge and understanding. We believe reading and understanding the Bible is a life changing essential for followers of Jesus. We also know it is difficult. Your NEXT STEP might be taking a class like Bible 101, Bible 201, Christian Foundations, Disciplines and Practices, or some of our other explorations through biblical topics. Believers need to expand their understanding. Let us help you GROW.

  • You are uniquely gifted to play a role in the edification of the Church. We’re not just talking about in the building on Sundays, although that’s a great place to start. Serving together helps to transform and shape our hearts toward others while using the gifts and abilities we have to share. The Church isn’t just a place to be fed, it’s a body that needs all the parts working together. If you’re not feeling connected, serving is a great way to solve that problem. If you’ve done all of the above, it might be time for you to step out and lead a group, teach a class, or head up one of our serve teams. Believers need to work together. Let us help you SERVE.
